The Mandt system: Our Focus is on Safety
Since 1975, The Mandt System® has taught millions of people how to build healthy relationships that empower people to create environments where dignity, respect and safety are more than just words. Our focus has been and continues to be on building trust and supporting people, not just their behaviours. Creating positive, healthy relationships where people live, learn, work and play is the ultimate goal of our training programs. When your heart, mind, and body feel safe, your behaviour changes and you act safe. By increasing safety, we can help organisations decrease risks, and that raises the bottom line for the all the stakeholders in the organisation, providing a significant return on investment.
The Mandt System® is a person - centred, values-based process that encourages intentional and positive interaction with others. The emphasis on personal accountability, coupled with a team collaborative approach promotes individual and organisational well-being and safety in both non - physical and physical interactions. Using a research based, continuous learning and development approach empowers the translation of research into practice, saving lives, not just dollars.
The Mandt System® enhances and further develops skills using a model of gradual and graded alternatives to prevent, de-escalate, and if necessary intervene to support or assist people, not just their behaviour. We achieve this by employing a combination of interpersonal communication skills, positive behaviour supports, conflict management strategies and, if necessary, physical interaction techniques. All of our skills are informed by our knowledge of the effects of trauma. The Mandt System® meets or exceeds all accreditation and training requirements, and is accredited by the International Association for Continuing Education and Training (IACET) to give CEU’s.Since 1975, Mandt has been training staff in crisis prevention through building healthy workplace relationships.
Since 1975, we have been training staff in crisis prevention through building healthy workplace relationships. The Relational, Conceptual, Technical, and Special Applications (RCTS) levels of staff development and training are designed to provide tools to build healthy relationships in order to maintain safety for all people. The RCTS training provides competence in interpersonal interaction using a Positive Behaviour Support framework, informed by research into the neurobiological changes due to trauma. As restraint is a restricted procedure, it is seldom used in Australia so the Mandt System® separates restraint from other physical interventions. Thus organisations can benefit from our approaches whilst at the same time limiting the use of restricted interventions.
We emphasize the use of a gradually progressive system of alternatives that involves the least restrictive means of interpersonal and physical interaction. The interpersonal and PBS skills from the RCTS training are reviewed and practiced throughout the Conceptual, Technical, and Special Applications programs. While learning appropriate physical skills, a high level of dignity and respect is maintained throughout the process. The RCTS program is a 5-day certification program. Once certified, RCTS Instructors can train and certify your organisation’s staff, with the ability to tailor the training to address risks to safety in each specific setting.
“We serve a person who requires support/restraint to move to a safe area, and ADHC has approved the Mandt System® method of moving this person after comparing it to another program they initially wanted. Both methods were demonstrated, and not only was the other manoeuvre difficult to learn, it was also deemed to be dangerous. After demonstrating the Mandt approach of placing a hand above the elbow with no pressure, and another hand on the hip, we could assist/escort this person to a safe area where they could deescalate. The group overwhelmingly chose Mandt as it was seen as non-invasive, supported the person without grabbing them, and kept the staff and the individual safe from harm, all while being easy to learn. My staff love Mandt and remind each other of dignity and respect at all times... I love Mandt and everyone comments how I project that passion when I talk about the philosophy behind it and it brings enthusiasm to others.” Sharyn Norie COBS, Inc Wodonga VIC
